Plugging up old oil wells. Why don’t we fix this?

In Toole County, Montana oil is one of the biggest games in town. But these workers aren’t drilling for oil — they are plugging up wells.

The oil industry has a long list of grievances from the general population due to the crude oil exploration and production. So Why is the industry unwilling to tackle together as an industry the abandoned well problem?.

Texas alone has over 750,000 abandoned wells.

About 783,000 unplugged oil wells across Texas have been abandoned by their owners, according to a new report by Carbon Tracker, a nonprofit think tank researching the impact of climate change on financial markets. That’s about 20% of the total# 3.8 million abandoned wells in the nation.
